Citizens of Ukraine, Croatia and Serbia detained in Croatia for transporting migrants

According to the Serbian Economist, Croatian police reported that they had stopped the illegal transport of a group of foreign nationals and detained three suspects – a 44-year-old Ukrainian citizen, a 20-year-old Croatian citizen (driver) and a 27-year-old Serbian citizen (passenger).

According to police, the Ukrainian citizen was stopped in the evening of 26 February in the Jasenovac area, while the Croatian and Serbian citizens were stopped on 27 February sometime after midnight in the Lekenik area. Law enforcers allege that the suspects were transporting foreign nationals who were found to have illegally crossed the Croatian State border for a pre-agreed reimbursement.

After the completion of the forensic investigation, all three were transferred to custody and filed criminal proceedings under Article 326 of the Croatian Criminal Code (illegal entry, movement and stay). The detained foreign nationals are subject to procedures under the laws on international and temporary protection, as well as on aliens.
