Israel launched strikes on Syrian military facilities

The Israel Defence Forces carried out several airstrikes in Syria on the night of May 3, The Times of Israel reported, citing an IDF statement. Military facilities, warehouses and rocket launcher infrastructure were hit.

Israel carried out airstrikes near Damascus, in the provinces of Hama, Latakia and Deraa, Syria’s SANA news agency reported. One person was killed in Harasta near Damascus and four people were wounded in Hama, it said.

The province of Latakia is home to Russia’s Hmeimim airbase. Russian aircraft briefly lifted off from the airbase during the IDF attack.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Monitoring Centre said Israel carried out more than 20 strikes in Syria. The organisation called the attack the largest Israeli assault on Syria in 2025.

This is the second time this week Israel has launched airstrikes on Syria. Earlier, the IDF attacked a target near the presidential palace in Damascus, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on 2 May. He said it was a signal to the new Syrian authorities that Israel would not allow threats to the community of friends living in Syria.
