Moldova has blocked the HaiTV application and website, which broadcast banned Russian TV channels, government speaker Daniel Voda said on 30 July. According to him, the decision was made after appeals, including from the Teleradio Council.
“State institutions know what needs to be done. It takes close coordination, unified action and professionalism to protect the national interest. A concrete example: the HaiTV programme was blocked on the territory of Moldova,” Vode told (quoted by Newsmaker.md).
He specified that during the last days, hundreds of residents of the country received via Viber an invitation to download this programme or go to the website.
“The competent authorities have issued official blocking orders. This programme broadcasts media content banned in Moldova from Russia and Belarus, which have already been blocked for military propaganda and threats to information security,” the Moldovan government speaker added.
At the time of publication of the news, the haitv.live website and the application remained available, the publication said.
Earlier in the day, Moldovan President Maia Sandu accused Russia of preparing a large-scale interference in the parliamentary elections.
Parliamentary elections in Moldova will be held on 28 September. According to the latest polls, the ruling Action and Solidarity party retains its leadership.
The leading opposition forces, led by former President Igor Dodon, recently announced the formation of an electoral alliance advocating “normalisation” of relations with Russia, against the country’s pro-Western orientation.
Another opposition bloc called “Victory”, linked to the businessman Ilan Shor, who was convicted in absentia in Moldova and has Russian citizenship, was not allowed to run.
