The Russian government has imposed a ban on the export of jet fuel from the country, according to a decree of the Russian government published on the website of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers.
The decree calls the ban on the export of jet fuel from Russia, including that purchased on exchange trades, temporary. It will be in effect until 30 November 2026.
The decision, the statement said, was made to ensure “a stable situation on the domestic fuel market.”
This is the first case when the Russian authorities impose such a ban, Russian media, in particular RBC, noted.
There is now also a total ban on petrol exports from Russia, which is said to be aimed at preventing shortages during periods of high demand. This ban is in place until 31 July. A partial ban on diesel exports is also still in effect.
The bans are being imposed against the backdrop of, on the one hand, Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries and, on the other hand, the conflict in the Middle East, which has led to a rise in oil prices and the prospect of a shortage of jet fuel on the global market.
