Russia: more than 70 trains are running with delays due to drone attack

As of the evening of 19 July, 75 long-distance passenger trains in Russia were running with delays, the Federal Passenger Company (FPC) has reported.

The cause of the delays was said to be damage to the contact network caused by debris from Ukrainian drones in Rostov Region.

According to Russian authorities and Russian Railways (RZD), the drone strike took place on Saturday morning. According to the railway, the contact network on the Likhaya-Zamchalovo crossing was damaged, and a woman on duty at the Likhaya station was also allegedly injured. This is the main move from Moscow to Rostov and further south towards Sochi. The railway company said 50 long-distance trains were delayed and a number of electric trains were cancelled.

In the evening, the FPC reported about 75 delayed trains, including flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg. In addition, more than 10 Grand Express trains travelling to or from annexed Crimea have been delayed.

The Russian Defence Ministry claimed more than 20 downed Ukrainian drones over Russian territory throughout the day and evening of 19 July. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed five downed drones, which he said were flying towards Moscow. At Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports, restrictions were imposed on aircraft departures and arrivals in the evening. At Vnukovo, restrictions were imposed twice during the day.
