Seven more countries intend to join the NATO PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) initiative to purchase US weapons for Ukraine’s needs, Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga has said.
“We have today six countries that have contributed specific amounts to fill it, to continue this programme. And as of today we can talk about the intention of seven more countries to become participants with a specific contribution to this programme. We have important events in front of us on the military side, on the side of the Ministry of Defence. There will be a meeting of the European Union Defence Ministers, we are expecting Ramstein. I think these are good platforms where this topic will be discussed and we can expect practical results,” Sibiga said at a press conference in Kiev with EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas.
On 14 July, the US and NATO signed a PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) agreement, which envisages sending US weapons to Ukraine at the expense of European countries, NATO coordinates the process.
According to the Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte, in the first months after the launch of the PURL project, more than 2 billion euros were collected. First of all, these funds are used to purchase weapons and ammunition that European arms manufacturers do not produce. These include air defence systems.
