Travelers increased its net profit by 46% in the second quarter

The US-based Travelers Cos., one of the country’s largest property and casualty insurance companies, increased its net profit by 46 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, thanks to a reduction in losses from natural disasters and growth in investment income.

According to the company’s press release, its net profit for April–June stood at $2.21 billion, compared with $1.51 billion for the same period the previous year. Earnings per share rose to $10.26 from $6.53.

Earnings excluding one-off items stood at $10.04 per share, significantly exceeding the consensus forecast of $5.41 per share among analysts surveyed by FactSet.

Travelers’ net premiums written fell slightly in the last quarter to $11.53 billion from $11.54 billion, but were higher than the average analyst forecast of $11.26 billion.

Net investment income rose by 14 per cent to $1.07 billion.

Losses related to natural disasters in April–June totalled $518 million, compared with $927 million a year earlier.

The company’s revenue increased to $12.15 billion from $12.12 billion for the same period last year.

Travelers returned $1.577 billion to shareholders in the second quarter, including $1.311 billion through share buy-backs. The board of directors approved a dividend payment of $1.25 per share for the past quarter.

The company’s shares rose by 1.2 per cent during Friday’s trading session. Since the start of this year, their value has risen by 16.5 per cent.
