Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will come to the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Turkey on Thursday, 15 May, which Vladimir Putin has proposed, and will wait there for Putin personally.
“I will wait for Putin on Thursday in Turkey. In person. I hope the Russians this time will not look for reasons why they can’t,” he wrote on social network X on Sunday night.
“We are waiting from tomorrow for a ceasefire-complete and lasting-to give the necessary basis for diplomacy. There is no point in dragging out the killings,” Zelensky also emphasised.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump called on Ukraine to immediately agree to talks in Istanbul on 15 May.
“Russian President Putin does not want to have a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine, but wants to meet on Thursday in Turkey to discuss a possible end to the carnage. Ukraine must agree to this, immediately,” Trump wrote on social media X on Sunday.
He added that at least they will be able to determine if a deal is possible, and if not, European leaders and the US will know where things stand and can act accordingly.
“I’m beginning to doubt that Ukraine will make a deal with Putin, who is too busy celebrating a World War II victory that could not have been won (not even close!) without the United States of America. Hold a meeting, IMMEDIATELY!!!,” he wrote.
