Germany has opened a research centre specialising in drone defence to help tackle the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles.
“We are significantly strengthening our ability to respond to hostile drones,” said German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt at the opening ceremony, as quoted by AFP.
He said the facility “will become a central element of the security architecture in the face of the hybrid threat posed by drones”.
Dobrindt warned that the explosives discovered in Leipzig earlier this month were not an “isolated incident”. He said, “Leipzig is part of a wider picture.”
