A jury in the Southern District of Florida has found 62-year-old Russian national Alexander Mamonov, who lives in Florida, guilty on all 12 counts in a case concerning the illegal export of Aeroflot aircraft parts to Russia. This was reported by the US Department of Justice.
According to the prosecution, Mamonov, who previously worked for Aeroflot, organised a scheme to supply aircraft parts worth around one million dollars after moving to Florida. This took place after additional export restrictions against Russia were introduced in 2022.
To circumvent US export controls, suppliers were misled as to where the goods were actually being sent. The accompanying documents listed, in particular, the United Arab Emirates and China, although in reality the aircraft parts were destined for Russia and Aeroflot.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Miami field office, with support from the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security.
Mamonov was charged in April 2025 alongside Russian national Ignat Vakorin, who, according to the FBI, remains at large.
The jury found Mamonov guilty on all counts, including conspiracy to violate export control laws, the unlawful export of controlled goods, conspiracy and the actual smuggling, the submission of false export information, and conspiracy to launder money.
“The guilty verdict on all counts demonstrates the United States Government’s unwavering commitment to enforcing our export control laws and holding those who violate them to account,” said John Eisenberg, Assistant US Attorney General for National Security, following the verdict.
Jason Reading Quinoones, US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, emphasised that Russia would not succeed in circumventing US sanctions and export controls by routing purchases through Florida.
Judge Kathleen Williams will deliver the sentence in the Mamonov case on 20 November. Meanwhile, back in April, a senior Republican in the US Congress had already expressed concern that components of American origin were still being found in Russian weaponry. Ukraine, for its part, claims that the wreckage of recently deployed Russian drones contains Western microelectronics, some of which were manufactured as recently as 2025.
