Aluminium price rises to highest since April 2022

The aluminium price rose in trading on Tuesday to its highest since April 2022.

Aluminium on the LME rose by 0.8% to $3,111 per tonne. Prices of other metals also rose, with zinc adding 1.5% to $3,241.5 a tonne.

Aluminium is widely used as a structural material. The main advantages of aluminium are its lightness, pliability for stamping, corrosion resistance, high thermal conductivity, and non-toxicity of its compounds. In particular, these properties have made aluminium extremely popular in the manufacture of kitchen utensils, aluminium foil in the food industry and for packaging. The first three properties have made aluminium a major raw material in the aviation and aerospace industry (recently it has been displaced by composite materials, primarily carbon fibre). After construction and the production of packaging – aluminium cans and foil – the energy industry is the largest metal-consuming industry.
