Amazon to invest $10bn in data centres for AI

Amazon.com Inc. is investing $10 billion to expand its data centre infrastructure in North Carolina to support AI and cloud technologies.

According to a company statement, this will create 500 new jobs for highly skilled professionals and support the emergence of thousands of additional jobs in the supply chains of Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres.

“Advances in generative AI are fuelling demand for advanced cloud infrastructure and computing power, and our investment will support the future of AI technology,” Amazon said in a statement.

The company has invested $12bn in North Carolina since 2010, contributing $13.1bn to the state’s GDP and supporting around 24,000 jobs.

Amazon shares are adding 0.4 per cent during trading on Wednesday. Since the beginning of this year, their value has fallen by 5.9 per cent.
