The Moldovan authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the operations of the ‘Yandex Go’ service within the country. This decision has been taken against a backdrop of concerns regarding information security and the protection of citizens’ personal data. Government spokesperson Dumitru Choric noted that the focus is on the risks associated with the unauthorised use of personal information.
The Moldovan government is requiring Yandex to provide comprehensive information on the company’s ownership structure and its beneficial owners within the next 20 days. The authorities also intend to request a report from the National Centre for the Protection of Personal Data concerning the methods used to process and transfer user data.
Chorich emphasised that ‘Yandex Go’ does not directly provide taxi services, but rather provides a platform for their provision, charging a commission of 12 per cent of the fare. As a result, a significant amount of tax revenue was collected for the budget in 2025.
It is worth noting that, previously, the Moldovan Competition Council had repeatedly asked ‘Yandex’ to provide data on drivers participating in the ‘Platinum’ loyalty programme. However, Ridetech International, which managed ‘Yandex Go’ until October 2025 and is part of the ‘Yandex’ group, refused to provide this data, for which it was fined €39,420.
Management of ‘Yandex Go’ in Moldova has now been transferred to Ride Technology Global FZ, a company registered in the United Arab Emirates. However, the issue of transparency and the security of user data remains unresolved, and the Moldovan authorities intend to clarify all contentious points in order to ensure the protection of their citizens’ personal information.
