Apple almost introduced a new biosensor into the Apple Watch Series 10, as evidenced by a published prototype of the device, which differs from the production version by the configuration of the back panel. The images were shared by famous prototype collector Stella-Fudge( he’s Choco_bit), publishing them on X.
On the back of the prototype you can notice a touch pad with a completely different layout – the elements, usually arranged in a circle, here are gathered closer to the centre, and around them runs an additional ring of backlighting, the purpose of which is not yet clear. The case itself is labelled as Apple Watch Series 10 (GPS), and the device runs on watchOS 11.1 build number 22r5575x – intermediate between the fifth beta and release candidate of this version of the system.
According to the author of the publication, it is impossible to install standard applications on the watch, because they require access to Apple’s internal servers. Therefore, it is impossible to test the work of the sensors of the possibility.
The collector suggests that the device could be used as a test platform for monitoring blood sugar levels – a function that Apple has long dreamed of adding to the Apple Watch . The company is aggressively pursuing digital health, and non-invasive blood glucose measurement has been mentioned many times in rumours and leaks.
Today’s methods of monitoring sugar levels require a skin puncture, but Apple is working on technology that would allow for analysis without direct contact with blood. While bringing such a feature to commercial devices is still considered a thing of the future, the prototype that has been revealed may indicate that the company is closer to the goal than previously thought.
