Armenia refused to pay contributions to the CSTO budget

Armenia has officially refused to pay its contribution to the budget of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) for last year.

“Armenia refrains from signing the decision ‘on the CSTO budget for 2024’ and, accordingly, from participating in the financing of the organisation’s activities,” the ministry said.

As the Armenian Foreign Ministry noted, the decision was communicated to the CSTO secretariat in accordance with the established procedure. At the same time, according to the organisation’s internal rules, the details of the budget are not disclosed.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said earlier that if Armenia fails to repay the debt by the end of 2025, various measures may be taken, but the country’s exclusion from the CSTO is still unlikely.

Earlier, Armenia froze its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) and stopped funding the organisation. In December, Pashinyan said that the country’s return to the CSTO was impossible.

The Eurasian Economic Union unites Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
