At least 13 people have been killed in a landslide in western Kenya’s Rift Valley region. The incident occurred on the morning of 1 November after prolonged heavy rains, local police said.
According to Elgeyo-Marakwet County Police Commander Peter Mulinge, rescuers managed to find 19 people alive. The exact number of missing people is still unknown as search and rescue efforts continue.
Home Affairs Minister Kipchumba Murkomen said the military and police helicopters have been brought in to assist in the rescue.
Authorities warned that heavy rainfall in the region could cause further landslides and urged local residents to be cautious.
