Chinese Internet giant Baidu Inc. increased its net profit in the first quarter of 2025 by 42%, revenue – by 3%.
As noted in the company’s press release, net profit in January-March was 7.72 billion yuan ($1.06 billion), compared to 5.45 billion yuan in the same period of the previous year. The consensus forecast of analysts surveyed by FactSet had called for Baidu’s net profit to fall to 3.745 billion yuan.
Quarterly profit excluding one-off factors fell 8 per cent to 6.47 billion yuan.
Baidu’s revenue in January-March was 32.45 billion yuan, compared to 31.51 billion yuan a year earlier. Experts on average expected this figure at 30.43 billion yuan.
Revenue from the company’s core business (Baidu Core) increased 7% to 25.46 billion yuan last quarter. Revenue in the online marketing segment fell 6% to 16 billion yuan. Revenue in the division covering cloud services and AI development rose 40% to ¥7.2bn.
Revenue at Baidu-owned online video platform iQiyi fell 9% to 7.2bn yuan.
Baidu’s ADRs added 2.4 per cent in previous trading in New York on Wednesday. The securities are up 6 per cent since the start of this year.
