China has never provided lethal weapons to any of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine and calls the accusations of the ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries groundless. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a briefing.
He emphasises that this joint statement is once again a “misinterpretation of facts, deliberate vilification of China and gross interference in China’s internal affairs”.
“China has always taken a clear position on the crisis in Ukraine (as Beijing calls Russia’s wars against Ukraine – ed.). China has never supplied lethal weapons to either side of the conflict and strictly controls the export of dual-use goods. We do not accept blame shifting or baseless accusations from the G7,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said at a briefing.
He said China is firmly committed to peaceful development and defence policy.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Beijing always maintains its “nuclear power at the minimum level necessary for national security”, the G7 turns a blind eye to the special and “primary responsibility of the US for nuclear disarmament and nuclear proliferation risks from AUKUS, while directing attention to China”.
“This is a typical example of the confusion of good and evil,” Lin Jian said.

The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries in their statement reaffirmed” unwavering support” for Ukraine and emphasised “the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire”. The statement also condemned the provision of military aid to Russia by North Korea and Iran, as well as China’s supply of arms and dual-use components, “which crucially makes it possible for Russia to wage war.”
China has positioned itself as a neutral party in Russia’s war against Ukraine and says it is not providing military aid to either side, unlike the US and other Western countries. But Beijing remains a close political and economic ally of Russia, and NATO members have called China the “decisive leadership” of a war it has never condemned.
Project Scheme (Radio Liberty) in one of its investigations described how China became the sole supplier to Russia of a number of rare metals for weapons production after Western sanctions were imposed.
