‘Carnage’: Trump says Ukraine war must end in ” shortest possible time”

US President Donald Trump has said that the fighting in Ukraine must end “as soon as possible”, calling the war a “terrible bloodbath” and “the greatest since World War II”. He said this in an interview with GB News.

According to Trump, Washington is working to increase international pressure on Moscow, particularly because of the restriction of oil trade involving India and other countries. He expressed his belief that this approach would help move towards ending the war.

The American president said that “in the last month alone, some 25,000 military personnel from both sides have died in the fighting.” He also recalled that he had previously hoped for a quick settlement thanks to what he believed to be “very good relations” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump added that he relies on “tough economic arguments” for diplomacy, recalling how he said he threatened India and Pakistan to halt trade deals when they escalated, “in 48 hours the conflict was settled”.

Earlier, on 30 October, after talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea’s Busan, Trump said that in the Russia-Ukraine war, “the sides are at an impasse” and “sometimes you have to let them fight, apparently.”

On 2 November, Trump again said he was not considering supplying Tomahawk missiles to Kiev. Trump has previously hinted from time to time that the United States might provide Tomahawks to Ukraine, although he has recently opposed the idea.

Subsequently, on 7 November, Trump said that “significant progress” had been made in ending the war Russia is waging against Ukraine.
