China cut steel production by 12.1 per cent

China’s steelmaking in October fell 12.1% year-on-year to 72 million tonnes, according to the country’s State Statistics Office.

This is the lowest output since December 2023.

The country produced 817.87 million tonnes of steel in the first ten months of this year, down 3.9% from the same period a year earlier.

Production of pig iron in January-October decreased by 1.8% to 711.4 million tonnes. In particular, last month’s output was 65.6 million tonnes, down 7.9%.

It is expected that steel production in China in 2025 will fall below 1 billion tonnes for the first time in six years.
