Croatia is ready to fully supply Hungary and Slovakia with oil

Croatia is ready to meet all the oil needs of Hungary and Slovakia thanks to deliveries by the Adriatic pipeline, the country’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic told CNN.

“You know that Croatia has the so-called Adriatic pipeline to deliver oil to our neighbours and we have checked all its capacities. Croatia can guarantee today to both Hungary and Slovakia the delivery of more than 12 million tonnes of oil of any necessary blend to meet all the needs of the refinery in Sazhalombatta (Hungary) and the refinery in Bratislava (Slovakia),” he said.

Plenkovic recalled US President Donald Trump’s position that more significant sanctions against Russia can be imposed only if all EU countries refuse Russian oil: “that is why there are different supply routes for all those countries that theoretically needed Russian oil. If this issue is adequately resolved, and we believe that for these two countries the problems are solved by the Adriatic pipeline, I think we could reach a common solution at the EU level,” Plenkovic said.

The Croatian Prime Minister also noted that the country is contributing to Europe’s energy security by expanding the capacity of the LNG terminal on the island of Krk.

The Adriatic oil pipeline is operated by the Croatian company Jadranski naftovod (JANAF). JANAF operates the country’s main oil pipelines and part of the Adria pipeline, transporting oil from the port and terminal of Omišalj (Krk Island) to Croatian and foreign refineries in Eastern and Central Europe.
