Three police officers were shot dead in the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala, on 5 May; two attackers were killed while trying to escape. A minor girl is among the injured, she was wounded in the arm by a shrapnel.
According to the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov, the shooting started after an attempt to stop the car, but the driver did not obey and opened fire. As a result, three traffic inspection officers were killed, the local Interior Ministry said.
One of the officers was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound, the Ekho Dagestan telegram channel reported.
The exact number of attackers has not been officially named. Photos of the bodies of the two killed have been published, at least two others fled the scene in a service vehicle, local telegram channels say. The area has been cordoned off and a “Interception” plan has been announced in the city.
Earlier, on 22 April, police officers stopped a driver in Derbent, Dagestan, to check his documents – in response, he opened fire and was shot dead by law enforcement officers.
