Sixty-two per cent of mayors of Ukrainian cities with a population of more than 50,000 are hryvnia millionaires, these are the families of 33 city leaders who have declared cash savings in various forms and currencies of more than UAH 1 million, 13 of them have more than UAH 10 million in savings, and three of them have more than UAH 40 million, that is, they are dollar millionaires.
“Despite the war, year after year, both the income of the families of community leaders and their savings, car fleets, land plots and living space are growing. In 2024, the declared fortune again struck the scale: villas, hectares of land, new flats and expensive cars appeared in the declarations. “And although formally this property is often written down not on the mayors themselves, but on their wives or parents, it is part of the family wealth,” Interfax-Ukraine reported on Friday.
At the top of the rating was expectedly the capital’s mayor. Vitali Klitschko declared more than 6 million UAH of available funds. He invests in his relatives: the mayor of Kyiv showed a huge loan to his brother Vladimir – EUR2.2 million and $130 thousand.
In the family of Boris Filatov (Dnipro) – more than 57.5 million UAH, Viktor Shakirzyan (Rovno) – 42.8 million UAH, Andrei Baloga (Mukachevo) – almost 37 million UAH, of which 30, however, are in the pledge of Vaks, Gennady Trukhanov (Odessa) – 30.4 million UAH and Andrei Abramchenko (Izmail) – 30.2 million UAH.
It is reported that in the ownership of the families of city heads in 2024 appeared holiday villas, dozens of hectares of land, new flats and cars. All these upgrades the heads of cities showed in the declarations for last year. Traditionally, it is not the city leaders themselves who buy up expensive property, but their second halves. For example, the wife of Uzhgorod mayor Andreev founded two companies, the value of corporate rights of which almost reached 100 million hryvnias.
