Erdogan voiced support for a “just peace” in conversation with Putin

Turkish and Russian Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation, their offices reported on 20 August.

According to Erdogan’s office, the two sides discussed the results of the meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska and bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia.

“President Erdogan said that he is closely following the development of the peace process, that Turkey has been sincerely striving to achieve a just peace since the beginning of the war, and that in this context we support approaches aimed at establishing a lasting peace with the participation of all parties,” the Turkish presidential press office said.

According to the belief, Erdogan and Putin agreed that both countries should maintain dialogue.

The Kremlin said the conversation concerned the meeting in Alaska and “the development of the situation around Ukraine,” and Turkey’s facilitation of the talks in Istanbul was also mentioned.

Erdogan recently welcomed the meeting between Putin and Trump in Alaska, expressing the view that it gave new impetus to efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
