French film legend Brigitte Bardot has died at the age of 91, her foundation announced on 28 December.
“The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with great sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer who decided to give up her prestigious career to devote her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation,” said a statement circulated to news agencies, which did not specify the time and place of death.

Bardot became a global star after appearing in “…And God Created Woman” in 1956, and went on to appear in about 50 more films. She then retired from acting to devote herself to animal rights.
