American Google (owned by Alphabet Inc.) will open an AI-campus on the basis of its office in Seoul, the company said in a statement.
The AI-campus is expected to become a platform for cooperation between South Korean institutes and research organisations and Google’s leading experts in this area. Local organisations will be given access to the US company’s advanced models.
South Korean President Lee Jae-min held a meeting with Google DeepMind (Google’s research division) CEO Demis Hassabis in Seoul on Monday, during which a letter of intent was signed for the construction of the AI campus.
The initiative is designed to support the South Korean government’s strategy to develop AI and build an appropriate ecosystem, Google said in a statement.
The US company will also contribute to the training of AI specialists in the country.
