In North Waziristan, near the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, a suicide bomber in a booby-trapped car crashed into a military convoy, the France-Presse news agency quoted a local official as saying.
The agency’s interlocutor said 16 military personnel were killed and about 20 others, including civilians, were injured.
“The explosion destroyed the roofs of two houses, six children were injured,” the Pakistani police spokesman said.
The Times of India writes that the group of field commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur, a faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the blast.
Pakistani authorities accuse the Taliban, which came to power in Afghanistan several years ago, of supporting attacks on military and law enforcement officials in border areas. “The Taliban denies the accusations.
Since the beginning of 2025, according to AFP, some 290 people, mostly members of the security forces, have been killed in attacks in Pakistan’s neighbourhoods bordering Afghanistan.
