US Utah US Attorney Jeff Gray announced on 16 September that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson has been charged with the murder of prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
According to the prosecutor, there are seven counts against Robinson. Among them are murder, unlawful use of a firearm resulting in serious bodily injury, pressure on witnesses, and obstruction of justice.
According to Reuters, the charges will be formally announced to Robinson later during his first court hearing. It is scheduled for 15: 00 local time (Midnight Wednesday Kyiv time) and will be held in the format of a video conference.
Gray also stated that prosecutors intend to ask for Robinson’s execution. As such, he will be held in jail without bail.
Charlie Kirk, 31, a conservative blogger and activist, was killed by a gunshot to the neck on 10 September. At the time, Kirk was speaking at the University of Utah. US President Donald Trump called the crime “horrific”.
Kirk is seen as one of those who helped the US Republican Party and Trump himself win the support of a large number of young voters in the 2024 presidential election.
