Iran attacked US bases in the Middle East, particularly in Qatar, with missiles on the evening of 23 June.
According to the publication Axios, at least 10 missiles were launched in total. This is fewer than are usually recorded during Iranian strikes on Israel.
In Qatar, the Al-Udeid airbase was attacked. On it, in addition to the US Air Force, units of the armies of Qatar and Britain are based there. A video of air defence operations at the location is circulating on social media.
“We assure that Qatar’s air defence successfully repelled the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles”. The Ministry of Defence will issue a detailed statement on the circumstances of the attack later,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari wrote on the X network.
Authorities in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have closed airspace. GPS navigation is not working well throughout the region. The US embassy in the Qatari capital has so far advised citizens to take shelter until further notice.
Earlier, Iran promised to respond to the United States bombing of nuclear facilities in the country. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on 22 June that a response from Tehran would be “the stupidest thing Iran has ever done”. US President Donald Trump convened an emergency meeting with top US officials after the attack, Fox News reported.
