On the morning of 22 June, air raid sirens sounded in northern and central Israel due to the threat of Iranian missile attacks. Residents were ordered to move to shelter.
The Iranian attack had multiple waves. The Israel Defence Forces estimated that a total of 20 to 30 ballistic missiles were launched from Iran.
According to the Magen David Adom National Medical Service, rescue workers recorded reports of rockets and shrapnel hitting more than a dozen locations across the country.
At least 16 people were injured.
On the night of 22 June, US B-2 bombers carried out airstrikes against Iran. According to President Donald Trump, the US destroyed three sites of Iran’s nuclear programme-Fordo, Natang and Isfahan. The US presidential administration said the military used six anti-bunker bombs against the Fordow site and launched 30 Tomahawk missiles from submarines against the sites in Natang and Isfahan.
Iran confirmed the attacks on uranium enrichment facilities. Mehdi Mohammadi, an adviser to Iran’s parliament speaker, says Iran anticipated the attack on Fordow, so “the facility was evacuated long ago and the damage is not irreversible.”
