US President Donald Trump announced that on the night of 22 June, the United States military attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran – in Fordow, Natang and Isfahan. He wrote about this on the social network Truth Social. According to him, the main facility, Fordow, “was hit with a full load” of bombs.
Trump added that US planes were already outside Iranian airspace and returning to the US.
Subsequently, in an address to the nation, the US president noted that Iran’s key uranium enrichment facilities have been destroyed.
“Tonight (US East Coast time – ed.) I can tell the world that the strikes were a striking military success,” Trump said.
He said the US goal was to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities and stop the nuclear threat that “comes from the number one state sponsor of terrorism in the world.”
Trump also warned of the possibility of more attacks on Iran.
“Iran must make peace now. If they don’t, future attacks will be much bigger and much easier to carry out. Either there will be peace or Iran will suffer a tragedy far worse than we have seen in the last eight days,” the US leader said.
Iran says the US has “flagrantly violated” international law and the nuclear non-proliferation regime by attacking the facilities of Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme. The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote online x.
“The events of this morning are outrageous and will have long-term consequences. Every member of the UN should be alarmed by this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behaviour,” the Iranian minister said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video message thanking the US for its decision to strike targets of Iran’s nuclear programme.
“Congratulations, President Trump. Your courageous decision to target Iran’s nuclear facilities with all the monstrous and righteous power of the United States will change history,” the Israeli leader said.
On the night of 22 June, US B-2 bombers carried out air strikes against Iran. According to Donald Trump, the US destroyed three sites of Iran’s nuclear programme-Fordo, Natang and Isfahan. The US presidential administration said the military used six anti-bunker bombs against the Fordow site and launched 30 Tomahawk missiles from submarines against the sites in Natang and Isfahan. Iran confirmed the attacks on uranium enrichment facilities. Mehdi Mohammadi, an adviser to Iran’s parliament speaker, says Iran anticipated the attack on Fordow, so “the facility was evacuated long ago and the damage is not irreversible.”
