Iran’s uranium reserves largely intact – FT citing European intelligence sources

Iran’s stockpiles of highly enriched uranium have largely remained intact after the US strikes on Tehran’s key nuclear facilities, according to European intelligence sources. This is reported by the Financial Times with reference to sources.

According to European intelligence, the stockpile of 408 kilograms of uranium was not located at the Fordow facility, but was distributed elsewhere.

The US has yet to provide its EU allies with definitive intelligence on Iran’s nuclear capabilities since the strikes. The EU has so far halted contacts with Tehran as it awaits further moves by Washington, sources told the FT.

The US attacked Iranian nuclear facilities on the night of 22 June. The strikes targeted enrichment plants at Fordow and Natang, as well as a storage facility in Isfahan.

US President Donald Trump said after the bombings that Iran’s nuclear programme had been destroyed. When CNN and The New York Times, citing US intelligence sources, wrote that the strikes had set back Iranian development by only a few months, Trump strongly criticised these publications publicly and accused them of spreading fake news.
