Jordan’s armed forces have intercepted four Iranian ballistic missiles targeting a US airbase in the country, the government has stated. This followed a demand by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that Amman dismantle US bases in the kingdom.
Jordanian state media quoted a government statement saying that the missiles were shot down on 14 July after they entered the country’s airspace.
Qir confirmed the attack in a statement published via the Fars news agency, although he added that the strikes were not intended to harm Jordanians.
“You know very well that not only do we harbour no hostility towards your country, but we also love you, a noble people who understand the pain and oppression of the Palestinian people more than any other nation,” the statement from Qir reads.
There have been no reports of casualties resulting from falling debris following the interception of the missiles.
Earlier on 14 July, the US military stated that it had carried out a new wave of air strikes on targets in Iran to help ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz, just a few hours after President Donald Trump announced the resumption of the blockade of the key waterway.
