After the end of the call of US President Donald Trump, Alexander Lukashenko spoke to the envoy of the US President John Cole, reports the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty. According to the press service of Alexander Lukashenko, Cole called him on behalf of Trump.
The topic of conversation was again the negotiations in Alaska and the situation in Ukraine.
They also discussed Belarusian-American cooperation and possible countermeasures, with Lukashenko’s website noting that the topic was raised by the United States.
A statement on Lukashenko’s website suggests that the topic of political prisoners was not discussed – despite reports from Donald Trump that he and Lukashenko talked about releasing 1,300 political prisoners in Belarus.
Lawyer John Cole was at talks with Lukashenko on 21 June in Minsk, after which 14 Belarusian political prisoners, including Sergei Tikhanovsky, were released. That is how many names are known to the public. In a note on the results of the conversation with Lukashenko, Trump mentioned 16 prisoners. Lukashenka’s press service did not correct him.
