Meta is investing more than $50 billion in the expansion of its data centre in Louisiana

The US company Meta is increasing the capacity of its data centre in Richland Parish, Louisiana, to 5 GW, according to the company’s blog.

Investment in the expansion will total more than $50 billion. It will be the company’s largest data centre.

Last October, Meta announced the formation of a joint venture with the management company Blue Owl Capital to finance and develop the facility. Its value was estimated at $27 billion at the time. The data centre’s capacity was originally planned at 2 GW.

As part of the project’s expansion, Meta plans to invest over $1 billion in developing local infrastructure, particularly roads and water supply and drainage systems. Richland has a population of around 20,000.

Construction of the data centre began in December 2024.

Meta’s shares fell by 0.8% during Monday’s previous trading session.
