Meta Platforms Inc. may invest more than $10bn in AI startup Scale AI, Bloomberg reports, citing informed sources.
The companies are negotiating, the terms of a potential deal have not yet been agreed, the sources said.
Scale AI, whose clients include Microsoft Corp. and OpenAI, for example, provides data labelling services that help companies train AI models. The startup has been one of the main beneficiaries of the generative AI boom. It received a $14 billion valuation in the past 2024 investment round, with Meta and Microsoft as participants.
Scale AI was created in 2016. In 2024, its revenue was $870 million. The startup expects to more than double it in 2025 to $2 billion.
For Meta, the deal with Scale AI could be the largest external investment in AI. So far, the company has relied mainly on its own developments in this area.
