Mobile internet shut down in Lipetsk region due to drone attack

Mobile internet was switched off in Russia’s Lipetsk region during a drone attack, local authorities said.

“Today we all faced restrictions in the work of mobile internet. The decision to temporarily switch off was taken by the military for security reasons. Last night alone, air defence forces shot down 127 drones over different regions of the country. As soon as the situation allows – access to mobile internet will be restored,” said Lipetsk Region Governor Igor Artamonov.

The fixed Internet, Artamonov wrote in his Telegram channel, was not switched off.

Governors of several Russian regions had earlier reported drone strikes on the night of 21 May. The Russian Defence Ministry reported about allegedly 159 downed drones.

Telegram channel Supernova wrote that the drones hit the town of Bolkhov in the north of the Orel region: a semiconductor factory is located there. The governor of the Oryol region, Andrei Klychkov, initially said that the drone strike had not caused any damage, but later said that the building of the Bolkhov semiconductor factory had been damaged and called what happened during the night a “massive enemy attack.” In addition to the plant, he said, several private residences in Bolkhov were also damaged.
