The Russian authorities have reported a massive attack by Ukrainian drones in a number of regions of the country, particularly in Moscow.
The Russian Defence Ministry said that overnight air defence forces allegedly shot down 105 Ukrainian drones over ten regions, in particular 35 over the territory of the Moscow region, 14 over the Orel region and 12 over the Kursk region.
Rosaviatsia said all four Moscow airports and airports in other Russian cities suspended flights overnight.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin did not report on the aftermath of the attack, but said emergency services were working at the sites where debris had fallen.
Dmitry Milyaev, the governor of the Tula region, which borders the Moscow region, also said there had been a massive drone attack on the region. According to him, one of the drones crashed into the roof of an apartment building in the Proletarsky district of Tula. The falling debris of downed drones in the city also damaged residential and non-residential buildings, with two people slightly injured, Milyaev said.
Throughout the night, Telegram channels also reported a raid on Novomoskovsk. This is the second largest city in the Tula region, where a chemical plant and several other enterprises are located. Baza writes that locals counted at least 19 explosions. There were no reports of casualties and damage in Novomoskovsk.
The Ukrainian military and authorities have not yet commented on the Russian strike.
Russian regions, particularly the Russian capital, have been hit by drone strikes for the second day in a row.
In particular, on the night of 21 May, the Bolkhov Semiconductor Plant in Russia’s Orel region suffered damage due to the attack. The AFU General Staff confirmed the defeat of the plant, which “supplies products to at least 19 enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex associated with the production of, in particular, Sukhoi aircraft, Iskander and Kinzhal missiles”.
