Losses of the Chinese economy due to natural disasters in the first half of 2025 reached 54.11 billion yuan ($7.55 billion), Reuters writes, citing a statement by Shen Zhanli, a representative of the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management.
The economic damage was 41.9 per cent less than in the same period last year (93.16 billion yuan).
The main damage (51 billion yuan, or 90% of all losses) to the Chinese economy was caused by floods. The earthquake in Tibet and landslides in southwestern provinces were also devastating events.
According to the ministry, natural disasters affected more than 23 million people last six months, including 307 people killed or missing and 620,000 evacuated. 29,600 houses were destroyed and 2.19 million hectares of agricultural land were damaged.
The ministry warned of a difficult situation from the second half of July to the first half of August due to intense rainfall in northern China and typhoon activity.
