North Korea fired about 10 ballistic missiles on Saturday

North Korea fired about 10 ballistic missiles towards the East Sea on Saturday, South Korea’s military said.

The missiles were launched from an area near the capital Pyongyang around 1:20 p.m. local time, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
It was the third ballistic missile launch by North Korea this year.

It came as South Korea and the United States began their annual 11-day Freedom Shield exercise on Monday.

The US India-Pacific Command said on Saturday it was aware of the missile launches and was consulting with allies and partners.

“Based on current assessments, this event does not pose an immediate threat to USA personnel or territory, or to our allies”, USINDOPACOM posted on social media X.

Japan’s Coast Guard said it has detected what may be a ballistic missile that fell into the sea. It appears to have fallen outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing the military.
