The Netherlands will deploy ground-based air defence systems in Poland, according to the press service of the Dutch Defence Ministry.
“From December, the Netherlands will also deploy Patriot, NASAMS and drone countermeasures systems in Poland to further strengthen air defence and protect a key logistics centre to support Ukraine,” the ministry said.
The ministry also reminds that Dutch F-35 fighter jets are in Poland from 1 September to 1 December – Dutch pilots have already used the weapons, including once to shoot down Russian drones.
During September, several European countries that are members of NATO reported sightings of drones in their airspace.
On the night of 10 September, 19 drones flew into Polish airspace. Poland shot down three of them. Not only Polish aircraft were in the air, but also aircraft of allied powers stationed in Poland.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki called the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace an attempt by Russia to test the reaction of Warsaw and NATO.
