Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Kremlin on 8 May.
Following the meeting, the two sides signed several agreements, including a joint statement by Russia and China on “further deepening of relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation in the new era”. Speaking about Russian-Chinese relations, Putin said that they have reached the highest level in the history of their development and “do not depend on domestic political factors or the current global conjuncture.”
The Russian president also noted that Moscow and Beijing’s approaches “when considering key international and regional issues coincide or are very close.” “Both countries pursue an independent and autonomous foreign policy and are interested in the formation of a fairer and more democratic multipolar world order,” Putin added.
Xi Jinping reiterated the importance of “strengthening political interaction and intensifying strategic cooperation between China and Russia.”
Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow for events to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war against Nazism in Europe. On 9 May, he plans to take part in a military parade to mark the occasion in the Russian capital.
