Russia was imposing restrictions on two airports this morning

At dawn on 8 May, Rosaviatsia reported about the introduction of temporary restrictions on the operation of airports in Russian Nizhny Novgorod and Novokuznetsk.

In Nizhny Novgorod, the reason for such measures was cited as ensuring the safety of civilian flights. Novokuznetsk airport, as noted, temporarily did not accept aircraft for technical reasons. Flights to Kazan, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk were delayed.

Also in the morning of 8 May, Rosaviatsia reported that the restrictions on the operation of air hubs in Ivanovo and Yaroslavl, which were imposed for flight safety reasons, were lifted.

Russian airlines facing air traffic restrictions in the central part of the country over the past two days are expected to return to a regular schedule by Thursday evening, the Russian Transport Ministry said.

Throughout the day on 7 May, there were numerous reports of Ukrainian drones over various regions of Russia. Due to fears of drone strikes, airports in Moscow and other cities stopped working, and more than 300 flights were cancelled, postponed or diverted. Tens of thousands of passengers were affected.

Russia’s Defence Ministry reported Wednesday afternoon that the Russian military had shot down 524 AFU drones in 24 hours.

Russia is celebrating Victory Day this week. A military parade is to be held in Moscow on 9 May, and a number of foreign leaders are visiting the country.
