Romania announced the expulsion of a Russian diplomat on 27 July – following three incidents involving drones (on 24, 25 and 26 July) that had entered the country’s territory. The country’s President, Nicușor Dan, stated at the time that the wreckage of one of the drones belonged to a ‘Shahed’-type drone, which Russia is using in the war against Ukraine.
In May 2026, Romania decided to close the Russian Consulate-General in Constanța following an incident in which a Russian drone crashed into the roof of a residential building in Galac. Two people – a woman and her son – were injured as a result of this incident.
