A car carrying a Russian serviceman and his wife has exploded in St Petersburg, Russia. According to the Russian publications *Fontanka* and *Baza*, the man was killed and his wife has been hospitalised with serious injuries.
The explosion occurred on the morning of 27 August on Kolpinskoye Highway. According to reports, a lieutenant-colonel was driving the car; his name has not been disclosed. Preliminary information suggests that a homemade explosive device went off in the car.
Russia’s Investigative Committee has announced the opening of a criminal case “into the car fire”. The specific charge has not been specified.
