United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov – this was reported by the press services of both agencies on 17 April.
“The Secretary of State conveyed to his Russian counterpart the same message that the US team conveyed to the Ukrainian delegation and our European allies in Paris: President Trump and the United States want this war to end and have already presented the contours of a lasting and lasting peace to all sides,” the State Department said.
The US diplomatic office added that the “encouraging response” to Washington’s proposed negotiating framework shows that peace is possible if all sides commit to reaching an agreement.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said Rubio briefed Lavrov on contacts with representatives of Ukraine, France and several other European countries.
According to the Russian ministry, Lavrov “confirmed Moscow’s readiness to continue working together with American colleagues to reliably address the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis.”
Meetings between representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Europe on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war were held in Paris on 17 April. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said that the next round of talks would be held in London next week.
