The leadership of the US-registered Free Russia Foundation has been added to the list of terrorists and extremists maintained by Rosfinmonitoring. This means that criminal cases have been launched against all the leaders of the foundation, which supports Ukraine and democratic reforms in Russia.
In particular, the president of the foundation, Nataliya Arno (Budayeva), and vice-presidents Vladimir Milov and Grigory Frolov have been included in the register. The list also includes Olga Galkina, coordinator of Reforum Space Berlin of the Free Russia Foundation, and journalist Alexandra Garmazhapova, founder of the Free Buryatia Foundation. All of them live abroad.
The foundation itself confirmed the reports.
“This is part of the repression of voices against war and in favour of democracy,” the foundation said. “We believe that the main terrorists are in the Kremlin, and if the Russian authorities put us on such a list, it means we are doing everything right and they are annoyed by our work,” the head of Free Russia said.
In 2024, the Free Russia Foundation was included by the Russian Justice Ministry in the list of extremist organisations, after which Rosfinmonitoring added it to the terrorist and extremist register. Another vice-president of the Foundation, Vladimir Kara-Murza, was included in the register earlier.
