Rutte confirmed Ukraine’s invitation to the NATO summit in The Hague, but did not specify if Zelensky would be there

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has confirmed that he has invited Ukraine to the summit in The Hague.

“I have invited Ukraine to the summit. We will make the programme with more details public as soon as possible,” Rutte said in Brussels on 4 June, ahead of a meeting of NATO defence ministers and the Ukraine-NATO council to be held tomorrow.

He did not specify whether this meant that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would attend the meeting.

When asked whether Zelensky had been personally invited, Rutte only stressed that the programme would be published later.

On 2 June, President Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had been invited to the NATO summit to be held in The Hague on 24-25 June.

However, it is still unknown in which format this participation will take place and how much space Ukraine will be given at the summit and in its communiqué.
