Firefighters were able to localise a forest fire near Spain’s capital Madrid, in the Tres Cantos district that killed one person and evacuated 180 people, regional authorities said on Tuesday.
Favourable conditions allowed the fire to be localised, the Madrid community said in a statement.
A man taken by helicopter to a La Paz hospital after suffering burns to 98 per cent of his body later died, the Community of Madrid said.
Scientists say the hotter and drier summers in the Mediterranean pose a high risk of wildfires.
