Sydney Sweeney knows how to command the red carpet.
Sweeney attended Variety ‘s Power of Women event on Wednesday, 29 October, where she wore a silver dress and showed off her new blonde bob.
The new look is no coincidence as Sweeney is promoting her new film “Christie.” Her colourist Jacob Schwartz told Vogue that the actress wanted to change her look a bit.
“Sweeney was looking for a change and wanted to get a big red carpet hairstyle to support her new film” Christie “,” Schwartz said. “It was the perfect time to do something bold.”
Although Sweeney has always been blonde, Schwartz shared that she used to be more of a “suede blonde” and her hair colour is now brighter.
“It’s more of an icy blonde,” Schwartz adds. “The colour really makes her eyes and features pop and complements the cut so well.”
Sidney Sweeney on Christie’s film
In Sweeney’s latest release, the actress portrays former professional boxer Christy Martin. The lm film chronicles Martin’s rise to fame in the ’90s, her tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband and manager, as well as sexuality, identity and survival.
“I really enjoyed it,” Sweeney told Deadline. “I really felt Christy’s strength when I transformed. And I really enjoyed training and working with incredible boxing trainers and strength coaches and nutritionists who helped me get to where I was for Christie.”
The film also stars Merritt Wever, Katie O ‘Brien, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad Coleman, Brian Hibbard, Tony Cavalero and Gilbert Cruz.
Sweeney also revealed that she had to go through physical changes to portray Martin. The “Euphoria” actress had to work out excessively and gained 30 pounds in the process.
“I had a nutritionist working with me, as well as a weight trainer and a boxing coach,” Sweeney explained during an interview at the Variety Film Festival in Toronto. – ‘We upped my calorie intake and I started taking a lot of protein shakes and supplements and eating everything. I was eating a lot of Smuckers, a lot of PB and J sandwiches, milkshakes, just constantly eating because we were so active. I was constantly burning it all off at the same time. So keeping it all going was quite a challenge “.
Being physically ready for the role was half the battle to portray the boxer aspect of the role. However, Martin’s story of her personal life going through a near-death experience at the hands of her ex-husband Jim Martin is a turning point in the boxer’s journey to greatness.
“I’m just glad Christy’s story is out,” Sweeney said.
Christie will be released in cinemas on November 7. Take a look at the trailer below:
